Responsibilities of Owning A Dog

Owning a dog is a lot of fun. You have a great and loving companion who is always there for you when you need him, you get a warm pillow to lay your head against when it is cold outside, and you get a pal that is a blast to play around with throughout the year. However, owning a dog is not all fun and games, as it is a big responsibility that should not be taken lightly – especially if you find yourself living in an apartment or a condominium.

When you first consider owning a dog, there are a few things that you need to consider. To begin with, you need to evaluate your living conditions. If you have a big house on several acres of land, go ahead and get whatever breed of dog your heart desires.

On the other hand though, if you live in a tiny New York apartment, do yourself and your dog a favor and do not get a massive animal like a Great Dane or a Giant Schnauzer. Keeping a large dog in a small apartment is simply not fair to the dog.

Now, after you have decided on the breed of dog that you want to own, you need to begin taking care of all of the different chores that come with owning a dog. If you purchase a puppy, you will need to take the dog to the vet to get it vaccinated for all of the normal doggy diseases. Furthermore, you will need to register your dog with the proper authorities and with your home insurance provider in case your dog happens to bite someone on your property.

Also, another important but often overlooked part of owning a dog is to make sure that you properly train your animal, keep it healthy and well nourished and keep it clean as often as you can
